Miami Mountain off the mark
Hollywood Racing's Miami Mountain (Canford Cliffs) showed a good amount of courage to win his Maiden over 1200m at the Vaal on Thursday.

Backed in to odds-on favourite on the strength of a good debut, Miami Mountain was a popular exotic banker. He delivered for punters, despite a game run in second from the grey Trajanus, who also drew strong betting support and is obviously one that was showing enough at home to warrant market confidence against Mike and Mathew de Kock's runner.

Trajanus made the clip and led the field into the last 300m, putting Miami Mountain under some pressure. But jockey Callan Murray got his mount to change legs and they reduced the deficit stride by stride, to win going away.

Said Murray: "He's still very raw, but he has ability. I think he's the type of horse that likes to build through his gears and finding them late. He is immature and green, but there will be more progression."

Mathew de Kock: "Miami Mountain sets the track alight at home, he looks like a quality horse. He was all at sea first time out and even today you could see he was still green. But he is an exciting prospect, thanks to Hollywood and well done to the team."
