Two fillies exit the Maidens
Saturday, 17 Oct 2026

The Polytrack at Hollywoodbets Greyville is not always accommodating to first-time visitors, but Mike and Mathew de Kock saddled two winners and a place from five runners on Friday evening, making good use of the opportunity to get a pair of long-time Maidens on the winning trail.
Now that Meghan’s Diamond (Rafeef, Jeff Syster) and Penny’s Choice (Vercingetorix, Tristan Godden) have cracked it on the Poly, they may find further winning opportunities on the surface. However, Penny’s Choice’s owners are considering sending her to stud while the breeding season is still in full swing.
Mat said: “Thanks to our teams in Durban and Johannesburg for their hard work. The stable is firing on all cylinders and it’s nice to get the rewards for our owners, including some new patrons who joined us recently.”

Meghan’s Diamond races for Preshalin and Jayson Murugasa, who were successful with Gallic King at this track last Friday. This was their sixth winner of the new season, and there should be more to come in the weeks ahead.
Penny’s Choice won with some ease, and Mat reckons that, with this confidence behind her, she could follow up soon for Heinrich Rix, Grant Knowles, Christo van Rooyen and the Appalsamy family. However, a decision will have to be made this week.
Knowles said: “That was a delightful win and it looks like there could be more, but we may want to send her to stud to get her in foal this season. She is a half-sister to Secretary Bird, and we’re considering her future as a potentially young broodmare.”
