Hollywood Racing’s New Zealand-bred import, One Eye On Dubai is expected to exit the Maiden ranks in Race 5 over 2000m at the Vaal this afternoon.

Lucky Fish ambassador Mathew de Kock said that One Eye On Dubai, a son of 2016 European Champion Almanzor, had improved between runs, and that his step up to 2000m would suit. He commented: “I’d be disappointed if we leave the racecourse with anything else but a win.”

Newcomer Blunderbore (Malmoos) has some prospects in Race 1 over 1200m, but his dam (by Duke Of Marmalade) won up to 2000m and he’s also considered a horse that needs further to come into his own.

Mat said: “Blunderbore is a very nice colt - big, strong and athletic. But with this type of horse, we would’ve liked to have more gallops. We haven’t had that opportunity, so he is very soft and will come on tons with this run. We’ll be pleased if he can run into the places. He has ability, but is nowhere near as tuned as we normally have our first-timers.”

Meghan’s Diamond has not lived up to expectations in three starts for the stable, but she will be fitted with blinkers for Race 2 over 1200m and Mat said: “She is limited and seems to hold back when she gets to the races. If the blinkers do the trick, she can run into the money.”

Cold Shine, in good form this year with two wins and two places, takes on stronger in Race 8 over 1200m, but he’s not out of it under 48kg. “He reverts to 1200m and is perhaps a touch high in the ratings, but if he comes back to his best over the shorter trip he has a chance for the claiming apprentice. He warrants consideration for the exotic bets.”
