Runners for this weekend, 27-29 March

Speedy I’m A Fireball is one of two runners stepping out for Lucky Fish Ambassadors Mike and Mathew de Kock at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Friday.

He’ll be lining up in Race 7, the Grade 3 Byerley Turk over 1400m in the company of several other promising sorts, including Grade 3 National Currency Sprint runner-up, Wild Justice and the Listed Sophomore Sprint winner, Green Gateway.

I’m A Fireball looks ideally course and distance suited and will be able to employ his free-running style from a favourable draw. This is perhaps his toughest assignment to date and Mike de Kock said: “It’s very competitive at the ratings, all but one of the eight runners are at 54kg. I’m A Fireball is doing very well. He is in good form, and should give a good account of himself.”

First-timer Putthelightsout (Race 2, 1400m) is a full brother to last week’s Turffontein 1600m maiden winner Gimmethespotlight (Gimmethegreenlight). He, too, is expected to be at his best beyond the sprint distances. Mike said: “Putthelightsout is drawn wide and will probably struggle with that, first-up. We’ll have to drop him out and we’d like to see him run on. He’ll be looking for ground, quite a promising horse.”

Mat saddles Proud Mary (Race 1, 1400m) and newcomer Mega Awesome (Race 2, 1400m) at Turffontein, Saturday.

Mat said: “Proud Mary has certainly improved following her 1200m debut, and will enjoy the step up to 1400m. She is drawn at 2 and that is a big advantage. We’re expecting a competitive performance.”

Mega Awesome is a son of Rafeef out of a mare by Fort Wood. His dam, Estelle, has produced two multiple winners so far and both broke the ice over 1600m. Mat commented: “Mega Awesome is a nice type of horse. He is bred to go further, but is showing us enough to be included in all bets. He is a big, strong colt, racing for a new Hong Kong owner. We look forward to a good run.”

Gotta Go Eddie (photo) is back in search of an overdue third career win in Race 7 over 1600m at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Sunday afternoon. Mat said: “He is honest and consistent, ran an eye-catching third over 1400m to I’m A Fireball and Roland Garros last time and both his wins have come over 1600m. He has a good eachway chance.”
