Runner comments, Turffontein Saturday

Mike and Mathew de Kock have a nicely-bred newcomer among their nine runners at Turffontein on Saturday. He is Rising Eagle (Race 4, 1160m), a son of Vercingetorix and Intriguing Lady, by New Approach.

Mathew de Kock commented: “Rising Eagle is a full-brother to our promising sprinter Sosoru, but he is a different type of horse altogether. He shows good speed, but he is far more tractable than his brother and looks like he will go 1400m-1600m in time. He shows potential in his work and a good run is expected.”

The Lucky Fish ambassadors noted on their other runners:

Race 1,1160m: “Fierceness has done very well since his debut win, we’re happy with him at home. He goes up to 1160m and that should not be a problem. It looks like a two-horse race with Fabian Habib’s unbeaten colt, so it will be a good test and something to look forward to.

“Mega Awesome and Sutter’s Mill are in the same race. Mega Awesome is not really setting the track alight at home, while Sutter’s Mill has been puzzling us because his work is good but he’s not reproducing it on track. We’ve got blinkers on both, hoping it makes a difference.”

Race 2, 1160m: “We’re looking for a big run from Staggerwing, whose previous race over this course and distance yielded a second to Get Up, who could be the best two-year-old filly in the country. It looks a two-horse race again with Sean Tarry’s Perfect Sky.  Our filly is in great form at home, she has come on from her first win and let’s see if she can get the job done.”

Race 3, 1160m: “Meghan’s Diamond is doing really well for her stable debut. When we looked at her form and saw she was still a Maiden we were surprised, because she works like one who has already won a race or two. We expect a bold showing and she should be included in all bets.”

Race 5, 2400m: “Corrupt just needed his last run and has made some improvement since then. He is suited to course and distance and has a galloping weight, warrants inclusion.”

Race 6, 1400m: “Trombolines had a sprint last time to bring him on for this contest. He is fitter now and this distance is better for him. He is showing good work and is not out of it, a good run can be expected.”

Race 8, 1160m: “Cold Shine remains in very good nick. We have a 2.5kg claimer on to negate the penalty he got for winning last time. He should run another good race.”
