Here are Lucky Fish-sponsored Mike and Mathew de Kock’s runner comments for the two Vaal meetings this midweek:

Tuesday, 31 March

Race 1, 1200m:

“We have a Ridgemont-bred first-timer, Onward, by Malmoos. She has been showing us some good work at home. She will be better over further, but we expect her to run a nice, competitive race on debut.”

Race 3, 2000m:
“Green Machine has been disappointing, and doesn’t show much at home. We’re stretching him to 2000m in the hope that he will improve, but he doesn’t inspire much confidence.”

Thursday, 2 April:

Race 1, 1000m:
“Sosoru just got beaten last time, we were disappointed that he didn’t win that day and we’ll be equally disappointed if he doesn’t win this race. He came out of that race well and has a good winning chance.”

Race 4, 1450m:
“We expected better from Floral Fury on her debut, though we did know that 1000m would be too short for her. We’re trying 1450m now and she has a wide gate to contend with, but there are runners in the race who may come out having raced in the last week and we may come in a few positions. Floral Fury should run a much better race.”

Race 6, 1450m:
“We fancied Destiny Of Fire a bit last time, but she needed it more than expected after a rest, was trapped wide and didn’t get into the hunt. She’ll have the run of the race from a plum draw this time and should make good improvement. One to consider.”
