Turffontein runners, Thursday 9 June
Thursday, 09 Jul 2026

Lucky Fish ambassador Mathew de Kock’s notes for today’s Turffontein race meeting are:
Race 1, 1450m: “We’ve gelded Mega Awesome, but he has not yet made the improvement we expected. We’re more hopeful than anything else.”
Race 2, 1450m: “Shabeen Queen wasn’t showing much before her debut and not much has changed heading into this race. The extra distance and good draw may help, but we can’t give any confidence.”
Race 3, 2600m: “Corrupt ran gamely to win over 2400m last time. It’s a small field again. If he gets his own way, he can follow up. He seems to enjoy a tough test. Green Machine disappointed in his Vaal run on 18 June, but he ran too freely and without cover that day. We’d like to see him find some cover today, so he can do his best work at the end of the race. Include both in your play.”
Race 6, 1600m: “Artist’s Model found traffic problems in his comeback race and still caught the eye running on nicely. If he’s improved on that, he has a winning chance. This is his second run after a lay-off and that is always at the back of our minds, so it’s probably wise to tread cautiously, but he is doing well.”
Race 8, 1000m: “Staggerwing is a talented young filly. We missed her last run because she was coughing and that was a pity because it was a Plate race against her own age group which is what we would’ve preferred. But we reckon she is better than her 85 rating and if she proves us right and has a few points in hand, she has a big chance and will be our best today. Let’s hope it all works out.”
