Two runners at Vaal on 2 July

Mike and Mathew de Kock send out a first-timer in Race 2 over 1000m at the Vaal today. Neelima (Heavenly Blue) is easy to back at 12-1 on the Lucky Fish betting boards, but there could be some place value about her.

Mat commented: “Neelima debuts in what looks like quite a strong and competitive Maiden Juvenile Plate, but she has shown us some ability at home and she’s had some good work coming into the race. She has a top three chance, and will improve with the benefit of this run.”

Bristol Hercules bids to complete a hat-trick of victories in Race 4 over the straight 1600m and has good claims of doing so on current form. Mat said: "He is in great form and enjoys racing at the Vaal. He steps back up to 1600m and Callan Murray feels that won't be an issue. He should go very well despite his big weight of 62kg, so include him in all bets."
