Turffontein double: 88 winners on the board
Tuesday, 30 Jun 2026

A double at Turffontein on Monday took us to 88 winners for the season, and the highest winning strike rate in the Top 20 on the National Log.
Trojan Horse and Feast Of Berries broke their Maidens, and Duke Of Lorraine ran on well into third in his own good attempt - he is likely to win soon.
Wrap below:

WINNER: TROJAN HORSE
Juvenile Plate, 1600m
2 bc Malmoos - Maningi Indaba by So You Think
Breeders: Ridgemont
Owners: Hollywood Racing (Nom: Anthony Delpech)
Jockey Gavin Lerena's comments: "He's a big horse, a beautiful animal. He's got such a nice temperament. He was a bit more nervous than normal today. He is still going to fill out into his big body so I think there is a bright future with him. I'm sure he'll be a better horse next season."
Mathew de Kock's comments: "He put it together very well at the end of the race. As he gets older and stronger, he is just going to improve - and he'll probably be more effective the further we go with him. He is very laid back at home and at the races he is quite switched on. We like those types of horses, he has a lot of upside. Thanks to Hollywood and Ridgemont, we appreciate such well-bred horses."

WINNER: FEAST OF BERRIES
Maiden Plate, 1600m
2 b f Vercingetorix - Redberry Lane by Western Winter
Breeders: Lammerskraal Stud
Owner: Wilgerbosdrift (Pty) Ltd (Nom: Mrs Mary Slack)
Jockey Callan Murray's comments: "She is a forward type and we were able to dictate the race. She took three starts to get the job done, but the tongue-tie made a difference."
Mathew de Kock's comments: "Sometimes they take a bit of time. Feast Of Berries was a beautiful yearling, she's a beautiful two-year-old and will develop into a stunning three-year-old. Thanks to Mary and Jehan for entrusting us with this filly. I'm sure they'll have a lot of fun with her."
