Vaal runner comments, 23 July

Lucky Fish ambassadors Mike and Mathew de Kock have runners in four of the seven races at today’s meeting for work riders at the Vaal.

They start off in Race 3 over 2000m with the good looker, Sutter’s Mill, who has so far not produced the track work he shows at home. “He tries 2000m for the first time and on his pedigree it should be no problem. But he has been very disappointing. Perhaps the extra ground will make a difference, but we can’t give much confidence,” said Mat.

Mega Awesome tries the straight 1500m in Race 5 – another who has not lived up to expectations so far but is set to improve first time over this slightly further trip and is one to include. “He actually ran a creditable race over 1450m last time. He sat far back, made a nice forward move before getting tired. We took positives from that. This is his second start after being gelded and he should be pretty competitive.”

Next up is Megan’s Diamond in Race 6 over 1300m. She made a promising debut for the yard last month and should go close today. “She’s knocking at the door and is in great form at home. This looks like a very suitable race, we think she can get the job done.”

Well-bred Glastonbury Fire looks set for improvement in Race 7 over 1300m. “He made a nice debut and has taken forward steps in his work. He has a strong eachway chance,” Mat concluded.
