Turffontein runner comments, Tuesday 21 July

Mike and Mathew de Kock are expecting a good day at Turffontein’s standside track, where the Lucky Fish ambassadors have four runners with chances.

Mat’s comments below:

Race 1, 1100m: “Apparition has taken a forward step from her debut win, which was impressive. She’s in really good form at home and, having improved, she’ll be a big runner here. Proud Mary has matured and strengthened with time off. This is a bit short for her, but she is expected to be competitive and if she is, she’ll be worth following next time.”

Race 2, 1100m: “Staggerwing stepped into a handicap last time and was a bit unlucky not to have won. She’ll enjoy the extra 100m and we’re confident she’ll contest the finish. She looks the one to beat.”

Race 4, 1600m: “Shabeen Queen made good improvement over 1450 last time and the way she powered through the line suggested that the extra 200m will be no problem for her, especially on the standside track. She didn’t show us much before and on her debut and then surprised last time, so we’d like her to confirm what we saw last time, but she must have a good eachway chance.”
