Aladdin's Lamp gets up for game win

Mat de Kock said on Monday that Aladdin’s Lamp would ‘tighten up’ after his game win over Palace Prince in a Pinnacle Stakes over 2000m at TAB Turffontein on Saturday.

“When we weighed him on Saturday morning he was still 10kg over his ideal weight so this run would have brought bring him on nicely as we go into the build-up to the Betway Summer Cup on 28 November. “Initially, we were going to run him in the 1600m race on 10 October, followed by the Victory Moon Stakes on 8 November, into the Summer Cup.

"But he was ring-rusty in his comeback run and we backed him up quickly. He may have done enough now. The Victory Moon is still a possibility, but we’ll probably just keep him ticking over and he’ll be ready for a big run on Cup day.

“Aladdin’s Lamp showed a lot of guts going into the gap to challenge Palace Prince. We enjoy working with him. He is full of quirks, but when it comes to race day, he is super honest. There is still room for improvement.”

Jockey Callan Murray said: “He got the job done after making heavy weather of it. He had a good blow.”

Six-year-old Aladdin’s Lamp races for Jayson and Preshalin Murugasa. He is a Varsfontein-bred by Master Of My Fate out of Little Genie, by Judpot.
