Hope for Green Machine over ground
Thursday, 07 May 2026

Green Machine didn’t beat the best of fields when winning his Maiden at Turffontein on Thursday, but there was merit in the fact that he had to do it from the front – the hard way – and did so admirably over the tough 2000m at the city track.
Jockey Callan Murray felt that Green Machine got the job done quite well and that he will win more races if he goes over even more ground. In time he could well prove to be right. Green Machine’s half-sister Beating Wings was placed in the Grade 2 SA Oaks over 2450m, his half-brother Umfula (Canford Cliffs), won a race over 2200m and another half-brother Zambezi Rapids (Dynasty), won over 2700m.
Green Machine is by Gimmethegreenlight out of Cool River, by Western Winter, herself from the close family of Grade 1 winner Humdinger, and twice a winner over 1800m, which leaves enough in the pedigree to be hopeful about.
Green Machine was bred at Ridgemont and competes for Hollywood Racing.
